The type of wood used in this Keepsake Box is Brazilian Leopardwood with Figured Maple for the drawer pull. The drawer is lined with suede material. There are no stains or dyes, rather only a protective finish, to enhance the natural wood color.
Leopardwood ~ Brazilian Leopardwood ~ Color/Appearance: Has very conspicuous flecking that gives this wood its namesake. The wood itself is a medium to dark reddish-brown with gray or light brown rays, which resemble the spots of a leopard. Leopardwood is frequently confused with Lacewood and is sometimes referred to as such. In its vaguest sense, the term “Lacewood” is used to describe any wood that displays figuring that resembles lace. Leopardwood can usually be separated from most species of Lacewood based upon its darker color and higher density. The tree is native to Central & South America.
Figured Maple ~ Figured Maple is a domestic hardwood. The sapwood is a mostly white creamy color, but some darker heartwood can be found. The wavy or curly grains produce a "fiddle-back" figure and sometimes a "black mottled" figure. The tree is Native To Figured Maple is from the Hard Maple and the Soft Maple trees. Our figured maple is a mix of these species. The trees grow throughout the United States east of the Rocky Mountains, the New England, and Great Lakes regions.
