Ash Characteristics: Ash is a domestic hardwood. This wood is strong and stiff, has good shock resistance, and is noted for its excellent bending qualities. It is ring-porous with a distinct figure. It has a coarse and generally straight grain with almost white sapwood and pale brown heartwood. The tree is Native To Ash is found throughout eastern Canada and most parts of the United States east of the Rocky Mountains.
Red Hart or Chakte Kok Aptly named, in some instances freshly surfaced Redheart can be a very bright, watermelon red—though color can vary in intensity and hue from board to board: anywhere from a light orange/pink, (similar to Pink Ivory), to a darker brownish red. In some cases, it can look quite similar to Bloodwood, though usually with a more visible and figured grain pattern. Fine, closed grain makes this Central American hardwood machine easily & finishes nicely. The unique brilliant red color with black undertones is unusual and unmatched in other exotic hardwoods. The Mayans refer to this hardwood as Chakte Kok.
