The wood often has a purplish cast with dark streaks. The tree is Native To Native to the eastern United States, from southern Minnesota east to Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, and south to the Carolinas, Georgia, Florida, and Alabama. It is also grown in Texas and north through Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, and South Dakota.
Myrtle is grown and harvested in Oregon. Myrtle wood is renowned throughout the Pacific Northwest for its excellent machining and finishing properties, including its beautiful color, spicy aroma, and figure. Also known as Bay Laurel, California Olive, Pepper wood, or Spice tree, this versatile hardwood grows only in Oregon and Northernmost California. Colors range drastically even in the same log so that a range from golden yellow, green, black, brown, tan, and violet can exist. Each blank is unique, making each project one of a kind.
