The type of wood used in this Jewelry Box is Red Gum with African Ebony for the drawer pull. The drawer is lined with suede material. There are no stains or dyes, rather only a protective finish to enhance the natural wood color.
Redgum ~ Wide sapwood is whitish to light pink or tan color and is sometimes referred to as “sap gum” or “sweetgum.” Heartwood is gray to reddish-brown and is commonly referred to as “redgum.” Heartwood with darker black streaks is called “figured red gum.” Quartersawn pieces have a ribbon-stripe appearance. The tree is native to the southeastern United States, and American Redgum should not be confused with Australian Redgum.
African Ebony ~ from equatorial Africa, Gabon Ebony is usually found in wet lowlands near rivers and swamps. Devoid of color, Gabon Ebony has ink black with lighter streaks. Ebony is a very dense hardwood and costly to produce, making it a rare species to obtain. Ebony is a treasured hardwood used by the Egyptian Pharaohs over 3,000 years ago.
