Type of wood used in this piece is South American Purpleheart with Figured Maple for the drawer pull. The drawer is lined with suede material. There are no stains or dyes, rather only a protective finish, to enhance the natural wood color.
Purple Heart Characteristics: Purple Heart is an exotic and imported hardwood that is strong and resilient, and has a uniform fine-to-medium texture. The grain is usually straight, but can be irregular. The wood is purple which darkens in time through oxidation. Tree is Native To: South America and Central America
Figured Maple ~ figured Maple is a domestic hardwood. The sapwood is mostly a white creamy color, but some darker heartwood can be found. The wavy or curly grains produce "fiddle back" figure and sometimes a "black mottled" figure. Tree is Native To: Figured Maple is from the Hard Maple and the Soft Maple trees. Our figured maple is a mix of these species. The trees grow throughout the United States east of the Rocky Mountains, the New England and Great Lakes regions.
